Not surprising really since he comes from such a musical heritage. His sister Sam, had a world-wide No 1 with “Stop” and frequently appeared with Jools Holland, his legendary father Joe has never stopped playing in 50 years and had a Gold album in the UK last year while his late mother Vicki was an esteemed singer both in the UK and abroad.
Finally Pete found time to record his own album, aptly titled “Not Before Time”. The CD is Pete’s first foray into the world of solo artistry….and not a minute too soon. Pete has been engineering from the age of 12, professionally since he was 16, and has worked with many acts including George Harrison, Sade, Nick Lowe, Dusty Springfield, Edwin Starr, Courtney Pine, Status Quo, The Specials, Jerry Dammers, Everything but The Girl, Yellow , Swing Out Sister & Black.
As a record producer, some of the artists Pete has worked with are The Mighty Lemon Drops, The Soup Dragons, The Violet Hour, Big Country, Joe Brown and multi-platinum artist Sam Brown (“Stop”).
As a singer and guitarist Pete has performed live and on record with Sam Brown, Joe Brown, David Gilmour, Dodgy, Anathema, Dennis Locorriere (of Doctor Hook), Kate Richie and Deep Purple.
Pete performed his own solo live dates in Spring 2009 with a band of gunslingers including on some shows his foster brother drummer Richard Newman who worked together with Pete in Sam Brown’s band before touring & recording for several years with Rory Gallagher and Steve Marriott, Alvin Lee, & Bernie Marsden.
Some of you will have seen Richard playing as ‘the other’ drummer at Joe’s 50th Anniversary Royal Albert Hall Concert. On bass guitar was Mike Nichols who had been filling in on bass for Joe since Rico was taken ill and is now the new Joe Brown Bass player. His line up was completed by Hammond organ player Richard Milner who has often worked with Pete over the last few years and who is currently James Morrison’s Organ and keyboard player.
Pete recently produced and played on former Dr Hook Lead Singer Dennis Locorriere’s new CD released in March 2010 and the last seven Joe Brown studio albums and recently also toured the UK with Dennis.
In today’s climate of canned, labelled and processed music, this is one musician who’s totally the real deal….check him out with his fantastic band or with Joe’s fantastic band.
